Started for home. I work in the Marina district in the far Northwest of the City. The shortest route to the Bay Bridge would be to head down Van Ness through the center of the City, but that big fire worries me. I'm wondering if some kind of bomb went off. Would be best to avoid that area. Instead, I decided to cut across to Fisherman's Wharf and then cut down Columbus to the Financial District.
As I left my work I was struck by how utterly silent it was. No planes overhead, no distant hissing of freeways...nothing! Made my way across Union and turned towards the Wharf. Not too many people out, some folks on bikes. Reached the Wharf in a little over an hour. It was really eerie...abandoned cars everywhere along the way. Like something right out of those doomsday movies.
I kept my eye on the fire which seems to have gotten larger. It's definitely West of Van Ness...maybe Hayes Valley?
